Vacancy for Magna/Yuzawa Educational Exchange Program
In 2004, Magna Township and Yuzawa, Japan Township established a sister city relationship, marking the beginning of the Magna/Yuzawa Educational Exchange program. However, due to the pandemic, the program was put on hold for three years, from 2020 to 2023.
By 2019, 139 Yuzawa families had hosted Magna students during homestays, reciprocated in similar numbers by Magna for Japanese students.
Throughout the pandemic, Mayor Dan Peay of Magna, Mayor Masayuki Tamura of Yuzawa, and Mr. Robert McDaniel, principal of Cyprus High School, maintained communication to ensure the continuity of the program. Thanks to their dedication and support, the Magna Youth Ambassadors program will resume, with departure scheduled for July 4, 2024. The ambassadors will spend three nights in Tokyo before taking the bullet trains (Shinkansen) to Yuzawa for a 10-day homestay. Yuzawa Township will provide Japanese language and cultural lessons, along with regional field trips.
Upon their return, the Magna Youth Ambassadors will present a DVD report to the Magna Township Council.
For this summer, the Magna Youth Ambassadors group has reserved 12 seats with Delta Air Lines, with 11 already filled. One seat remains vacant, and applications are being accepted.
